1/3: Be held accountable virtually with FocusMate

Have you ever wanted a complete stranger to watch you while you work in your room in a totally helpful and not creepy way? Well, fear not! With Focus Mate, you can be held accountable on a whole new level. Ok, I may have had a little fun with the wording there. Focus Mate is actually really creative, helpful, and if you think about it, you’re pretty much doing a good deed.

How it works:

You just log in, connect with someone you meet virtually, (like you would on social media) and then you both do work for about an hour while keeping both cameras on. The point is to feel like you’re being held accountable, while helping someone else feel the same. It’s pretty much the closest thing to being in the room with someone else working with you. It’s quite brilliant and if you really want to finish a project, this can seriously help.

2/3: Use the ultimate work device- Siempo Phone

This is a fairly inexpensive and completely genius phone made just for your work. Imagine how it would feel to be 100% in the zone while working? How much more work could you get done?

“A study by the University of Texas at Austin published recently in the Journal of the Association for Consumer Research found that a smartphone can sap attention even when it's not being used, even if the phone is on silent — or even when powered off and tucked away in a purse, briefcase or backpack.”

How it works:

This secret agent-like device allows you to use a map and take pictures, but doesn't allow distracting apps to be downloaded. The best part is, it makes “using your phone” totally inconvenient. Every time you’ll want to use your phone, you’ll have to type in your intentions, like “Taking 5 minute break to relax” or “Ordering quick grocery item to list”.

You can even schedule all your notifications to pop up at a specific time, (like every 4 hours if that’s what you decide) so you’re in total focus until you know you’re going to take a break. And don’t worry, you’ll also be able to hit the “pause" button on the side of the phone if you want to completely stop all notifications.

This basically makes it so you won’t randomly scroll or check your notifications, which will build a habit to keep you focused and interested in your work rather than your phone.
